Shopping

Cancun has several popular malls and flea markets.  Visitors to Cancun will find everything from inexpensive souvenir t-shirts to top-of-the line designer clothing and jewelry.

Malls & Flea Markets located in Cancun’s Hotel Zone:

Coral Negro Flea Market, Blvd. Kukulkan Km. 9

Coral Negro Flea Market has numerous souvenir shops and jewelry stores, a well-known tattoo/body piercing shop, Slices (a popular bar), and Xtabentun (a small open-air eatery with inexpensive, but delicious Mexican food).

La Isla Shopping Village, Blvd. Kukulkan Km. 12.5

La Isla Shopping Village is a gorgeous, open-air mall located in the heart of Cancun’s hotel zone, on the Nichupte Lagoon.  In addition to  it’s many upscale clothing & jewelry stores, La Isla has a movie theatre with first-run movies in English (with Spanish sub-titles) and Spanish, gourmet restaurants, fast-food restaurants, and Interactive Aquarium, where you can swim with dolphins and feed sharks.

Luxury Avenue, Blvd. Kukulkan Km. 13.5

Luxury Avenue is the newest addition to Plaza Kukulkan and houses boutiques for Coach, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Cartier, DKNY, and other upscale clothing designers & jewelers.  Designer cosmetics & fragrances are also available.

Plaza Caracol, Blvd. Kukulkan Km. 8.5

Plaza Caracol is located near Punta Cancun, the point where the Caribbean side of Cancun’s hotel zone meets the side that faces Isla Mujeres.  Here, you will find some unique shops, alongside larger retail chains.  The mall has a very small food court, but houses some great full-service restaurants, including Casa Rolandi, which has been a fixture in Cancun for decades.  The United States Consulate and the Canadian Consulate are both located on the 3rd floor of Plaza Caracol.

Plaza Flamingo, Blvd. Kukulkan Km. 11.5

Plaza Flamingo is one of Cancun’s smaller malls, with only 100 stores, but it has some big-name attractions.  On one end, there is an incredibly large jewelry store, called Lapis.  On the opposite end you will find Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurant, Outback Steakhouse, Pat O’Brien’s, and Bubba Gump Shrimp Company.  Inside the mall, there is a Cuban cigar shop, a pharmacy, an internet cafe, a money exchange house, a bank, and souvenir shops, along with other boutiques.

Plaza Forum by the Sea, Blvd. Kukulkan Km. 9

Plaza Forum by the Sea is home to Hard Rock Cafe, Cambalache, Carlos ‘n Charlie’s, and the world-famous nightclub, Coco Bongo.  This seaside mall also houses several other restaurants,  souvenir shops, and two American favorites, Starbucks & Haagen-Dazs.  The food court has a lovely view of the Caribbean Sea, while Chili’s and Hard Rock Cafe share a spacious terrace for outdoor dining by the water’s edge.

Plaza Kukulkan, Blvd. Kukulkan Km. 13

Plaza Kukulkan has nearly 200 stores & restaurants, but one of it’s most notable attractions is the gigantic, ornate, stained glass ceiling inside the mall’s main atrium.  It depicts the Mayan culture, whose people gave us the 365-day calendar we use today, and is an absolutely spectacular work of art.  Popular restaurants, such as Cenacolo, Casa Maguey, and Chocolate City, as well as clothing boutiques, jewelry stores, & Play City (slot machines!), can be found in Plaza Kukulkan.  Free wireless internet is available throughout the mall.  For art lovers, there is a large gallery on the second floor, which hosts a different art show every few months.

Plaza Las Americas, Avenida Tulum #260

Plaza Las Americas is located in downtown Cancun, near the Plaza de Los Toros (bullfighting ring).  In addition to Sears, Liverpool, and other clothing stores, you will find a supermarket, jewelry stores, a large food court, and full-service restaurants, such as Sanborn’s, El Tumbaburro, and Mama Roma’s.  There are also 2 movie theaters, Cinepolis & Cine VIP, which show movies in English (with Spanish sub-titles) or Spanish.  Both theaters have recently been remodeled.  Cinepolis is a normal theater, like we are all used to, but Cine VIP definitely makes you feel like a VIP.  Cine VIP has large seats that fully recline, and movie-goers can dine on sushi & made-to-order crepes, or have a cocktail at the fully stocked bar.  Waiters are available to take orders inside Cine VIP theaters until the movie begins, or you can order on your own from the counter in the lobby and have a waiter deliver it to your seat, once your food is ready.

Malecon Americas, Avenida Bonampak (connected to Plaza Las Americas)

Malecon Americas is the gorgeous new addition (and connected to) Plaza Las Americas, which opened in late 2009.  Even though Malecon Americas and Plaza Las Americas are physically connected, they couldn’t be more different.   Malecon Americas is a beautifully designed multi-floor structure with a contemporary look.  There is also a lovely open-air area where the two structures meet.   In Malecon Americas, you will find Johnny Rockets, California Pizza Kitchen, Starbucks, Chili’s, among other eateries. There are also many new shops, including Chapur, and a very nice home furnishings store by Liverpool (the store that houses all of the clothing is located in the Plaza Las Americas section of the mall.). Liverpool’s home store also has a restaurant.
