Coming to Cancun on 7/10 and looks like you all are getting beat up by the rain and the early Hurricane season. Any rough crazy weather that we should prepare for?

You should take a short 2-3 hour drive and spend a few days in Merida. The people are warm and friendly. There are lots of museums and also a English library. There are so many things to see and do. I plan to start living there by the end of the year.

Enjoyed reading your last blogs, RiverGirl, and also the comments to this "final" blog.
I am a gringo from San Diego, and have lived in Mexico City for 9 years now. (have visted Cancun & that area half-dozen times). I long to move back to San Diego, but my (mex) wife loves her job too much to leave just yet.
I have felt most of the things you mention, starting about my 3rd year here. Especially the part about "you'll always be an extranjero" is very true, no matter how much you assimilate.
Lucky for me, the crime issues have not affected me here in the capital, like they have the folks in Cancun, border states, Acapulco, and every other "tourist destination" in mexico.
But the people are careless, sloppy, rude, dishonest and self-involved most of the time. Especially the dishonest part: it's part of the Mexican character, I think.
I've adapted to some degree, mostly by taking many trips back home to San Diego, sometimes a month at a time. But I do want to get out of this country, especially out of this huge, dirty and unforgiving city. Hopefully I'll accomplish that in the next couple of years. I hate the thought of dying here !!

Yesterday I found this Rivergirl page and I'm
reading it. I like it very much, I know you a little bit more now.

You are a very intense, loving and intelligent women and mother. Your way to write really catch me. It is very interesting to see Cancún and Mexico through your eyes.

I will read each one of your articles. I picked up this one at random and I love it. You have a lovely teenager as daughter.

Certainnly my english is not good, so please...

Hi, I contacted you last year but we didn't have time to make it to Isla Blanca so we were going to try to get there this year. Is it true that you can camp on the beach? We have been toying with that idea for one or two nights before heading south towards Tulum. We went to Isla Holbox last year and swam with the Whale Sharks and that was tons of fun. Do you know if Pirata Morgan has showers/restrooms? It would be nice to get a shower if we camp. Just trying to find out a little more info. before deciding what we will do. Thanks, Yvonne

Hello RiverGirl!

I am planning one of my best friend's 30th birthday party for Cancun in August. Several people in the group are starting to back out because of all the bad news in the media about Mexico. I read over the earlier post and was hoping that you and others could give me some insight to share with the group on conditions and your experience in Cancun!

Thanks a ton!

I think you have done alot to help the poor cats and dogs in Mexico. They will be lost without out you. That is a noble thing that you have done.

I want to go there but I am a city girl from Miami. If you can live in Miami, you will be able to live in Mexico (I think)
