You are correct about many things here! I am very wary whenever I meet a new ex-pat. Crooks, cons, cheats and on the run from the law. I've met far too many that fall into this category and often find out too late. As hard as it is for those of us that try to go the legal route to live here, it boggles my mind how many people I meet who live here ILLEGALLY, no papers of any kind!! And they often seem to have more money than I do.

That said, I've met many, many wonderful people here (Rivergirl and Joyce top that list for sure). Thank goodness for the internet and the forums in particular. I lived here for a loooong time before I met anyone I could describe as a friend and those folks I now call friends I had to meet online. Go figure, who knew I had to go to a virtual world to meet real world people.

That explains why I'm starting to see black spots everywhere and am getting lots of headaches...just kidding. Perspective is a good thing. I just wish that everyone was "good" and would play nice so I wouldn't need a new perspective.

You are right. In fact most of the people involved in this mess are Americans. I just think it would be nice if Mexico actually enforced it's laws...everyday the papers here are full of corruption scandals. How can they possibly hope to enforce their laws if half the folks working for the gov't are part of the problem?

I'm sure a lot of this stuff happens in the US also, it's just hidden a little bit...

NOOOO you don't hate Mexico! You have just had your eyes opened a little wider to some things that you heard were out there but never presented themselves to you, until now. Don't worry, you will not turn into the bitter, jaded Portland Contingent. Tell yourself you are thankful that these folks taught you a lesson and remember that bad people get it in the end, and good people thrive. Good people THRIVE.
